This dry land of Hamirpur, may be an auspicious place of the
rishis. Everyone knows Chyavan Rishi, Rigi Rishi and Jamdagni Rishi as well as
Meher, Roti Ram and Madari Das and many others who also have their own names.
There is no lack of Goddess and gods here. Hundreds of places
like Lauki Dai, Harsukhri Dai, Kaldev Baba, Kathri Dai, Narhe Baba, Bhuyariani,
Kali Dai, Pachanare Baba, Kandaha Baba, Mukdta Baba etc. are in place. It is
not only the villagers but also the belief of the urban people. Every temple
has its own history and myth. Everyone has a place in Jhalokhar of Hamirpur
district, where there is medicinal properties in the soil. This place is called
Bhubaneswarvi Devi. It is said that soil here is very beneficial for skin
disease.
Nirbhaya Das Prajapati (priest) says that this is a very old
temple. 200 years ago, the people of the village got an idol of Goddess in the
field which was placed under a tree and the people started worshiping it. There
is a pond near the goddess there. Soon people from faraway places started
learning about this place. People from far away come here for treatment.
The structure of the soil has been checked by the scientists
. From which it has come to know that the soil here have
medicinal particles. Apart from this, there was no satisfactory answer from the
scientists.
On the other hand, in the 1875 Gazetteer Colonel Todd said,
"There is sulfur and mercury in the soil of the pond, which is helpful in
correcting arthritis."
Dr. S.N. Singh, Principal of the State Ayurvedic College and
Hospital, Atra, says that there is a medicinal element in the soil which has
the capacity to cure all the incurable diseases.
Every Sunday a fair is organized here. People come from far
away. People say that soil here is enough to treat all types of pain.
Information related to this from time to time is received by
newspapers, TV channels and other organizations.
Dr Krishna Dutt Chaturvedi, who was former head of the
Sanskrit Department of Atra Degree College, points out that this place has been
considered as the Vaidi of North India and the pond was known as Surajkund.
